Day 26: 88 Temples (none) - Uwajima

Up and out early today.  It was a grey day most of the time.  No rain but a few times you could feel it thinking about it.

There were a few kilometers of road and then the route headed into the woods.  It started climbing immediately.  I must have been one of the first on the path this morning because I got more than my normal share of spider webs in my eyes and mouth.  It wasn't a long climb and the downhill was longer and more gradual.  Great climb.

Back on the road traffic was pretty heavy and it was a lot of urban sprawl leading up to Uwajima.  After a stop at Lawson, I got a message from a friend in Toronto and gave him a vidcon tour of walking along a busy suburban street.

After that I felt tired and had a tough hour. Everything hurt and time slowed down. It felt like a long time and I got nowhere.  Probably the lack of a meal today caught up to me.  I recovered walking through Uwajima and walked up the gradual incline out of town to the next temple.

I walked to within a kilometer of Temple 41 and caught the train back to Uwajima.  There were no accomodations near Temple 41 and Uwajima is a small city.  I will start from the train station tomorrow.  Saving a kilometer there and back so I didn't miss the 3:02pm train seemed the wise thing to do.  It was also the lazy thing.

The train was a single car and it was packed with kids and families that took a Sunday outing to some place or event.  All the little kids were sacked out.

My hotel was right across the street from the train station and that was about as far I wanted to walk at the moment.  It has the tinyest bathroom yet in a land of tiny bathrooms.

Sunday night many places closed and I had a little trouble finding a restaurant that looked good.  I ended up in a kind of fancy bistro.  When I first entered it looked empty but there were groups in private rooms.  I was the only person in the open dinning area.  There were actually quite a few people there.  I had cheese pizza with honey and Tabasco ... it worked surprisingly well.
